Limiting Application Installation Sources in Windows 10 Creators Update

With Windows 10 Creators Update you can now limit where applications can install from, including:

  • Allow apps from anywhere
  • Warn me before installing apps from outside the store
  • Allow apps from the Store only

This is very similar to the feature offered with Windows 10 S – except in Windows 10 S, you can ONLY install from the Windows Store and there’s no option to change it.

To modify this option in Windows 10 Creators Update go to: Settings > Apps > Apps & Features.

If you’d like to run specific non-Windows Store apps but also enjoy the security of the setting to only allow Windows Store apps, there’s a process for whitelisting apps.

See: Allowing Specific Non-Windows Store Apps to Run in a Windows Store Restricted Environment.
